About the Combined Federal Campaign: The CFC was started by order of President John F. Kennedy in 1961. Today, it benefits 177 local charities and 2,400 national and international charities. Contributions are strictly voluntary. Some 16,701 federal, military and postal employees in 47 agencies across a seven-county area are asked to voluntarily contribute to the campaign.
